French chocolate macaroons
Macaroons and more
When most Americans hear the word “macaroons,” they may typically think of the chewy clusters of shredded coconut commonly sold in stores and restaurants. The fact is that almost every country in the world has its own version of the macaroon. French macaroons, however, are clearly the best. For the sake of this post, we will refer to them by the English word, although the correct term in French is macaron. But don’t worry – at Maison Parisienne, you can order them in whichever language you want.
French Macaron in Chicago? YES!
Macaroons are often classified as cookies, though they are really much more like cake. French macaroons are made with ground almonds and egg white, which gives them their light, fluffy texture. The little cakes are then flavored and baked before being sandwiched together with an almost endless variety of fillings: strawberry, caramel, peanut butter, lemon, pistachio, and of course, everyone’s favorite, chocolate.
Maison Parisienne makes all our macaroons in-house daily, using only fresh, natural ingredients like real nuts, fruit and cocoa. Other varieties of macaroons may be made with honey, spices, coconut, cherries or even mashed potatoes. Maison’s Parisienne’s macaroons are a delicious, gluten-free snack to bring to gatherings, parties, and work. And because they are leavened only with egg white, they make a perfect Passover treat. You can order them online through our website, and have them ready to pick up when you come in.
